Our very own Nebbiolo: the identity of a new terroir revealed.
Langhe DOC Nebbiolo Fontanassa
An oak leaf, the essence that preserves and refines.
If every place has a soul, Fontanassa is the heart of Olivero Mario. It is the first vineyard we planted. The one overlooking the place where it all began. The land from which the Lanternfish fossil originates, which is now our logo – a silent witness to a sea that vanished millions of years ago, guardian of the Langhe’s deepest memory. To convey this connection, we have chosen the oak leaf. The essence that safeguards but refines. Not the whole tree, not the branch. Just a leaf. Because sometimes it is in the simplest form that the greatest meaning lies: to protect, preserve and refine over time.
Fontanassa is our Nebbiolo, more immediate and accessible than Barolo, yet still Nebbiolo. It comes from the vineyard of the same name, is vinified with indigenous yeasts, and aged for 12 months in large barrels. The nose is dominated by cherry brandy and violet, enriched by elegant and subtle spicy nuances. The palate is full-bodied and austere in its youth, opening up on the finish with pleasant tannins and crisp notes of red fruit.
